Founded in 1928, Balboa is a college preparatory high
school with a rich history and tradition that has long been an integral part of
its community. All instruction is
organized through small learning communities so that each student is able to
build powerful relationships with teachers while engaged in rigorous academic,
artistic, and athletic pursuits.
At the 9th and 10th grades,
the small learning communities have a strong academic focus combined with an
emphasis on service learning and career and college exploration. At the end of their Sophomore year, students
select a field of interest that they will pursue as Juniors and Seniors in one
of the School-to-Career pathways: Law; Communication Arts; Health and Science;
Wilderness Arts (Environmental Studies); and International Studies. In each of these pathways, students are
provided a challenging core curriculum, a “technical” course that gives them
in-depth experience and instruction in the selected field, and the opportunity
to participate in internships, field trips, and guest speakers from the field.

Phillip and Sala Burton High School offers an educational
focus on science, mathematics and computer science. Each student is required to follow the rigorous curriculum of
four (4) years of math, four (4) years of computer science, three (3) years of
science and three (3) years of foreign language. We offer a college preparatory program that stresses high
academic standards and student achievement.

Galileo Academy, a California Distinguished School,
provides opportunities for students interested in science and/or
technology. The school offers four
career pathways: Biological Science, Environmental Science, Pre-engineering
Technology, and Creative Media Technology.
Students are required to take three years of college-preparatory
science. Additional graduation
requirements are a Senior Research Project and an Internship/Mentorship (45
hours). Galileo offers the AVID
(Advancement Via Individual Determination) program whose mission is to ensure
that identified students receive the additional support to meet the
requirements for a 4-year college.
Galileo also prides itself in its Wellness Center which provides
comprehensive health/medical/counseling services to all students. A strong emphasis is given to integrating
technology and School to Career themes to our curriculum.

Gateway High School is a college-preparatory charter
school committed to academic excellence through personalized, student-centered
learning. Gateway combines a rigorous
academic program with an approach where the individual talents and strengths of

Gateway seeks and supports students who have ambition, who are committed

International Studies Academy is a small,
alternative high school (500 students), which focuses on the study of world
cultures, international relations and world languages. The goal of ISA is to help all students
develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to live effectively in a
world characterized by diversity, cultural pluralism and interdependence. The core academic program includes three
years of college prep math and science, the study of world language for three
years and year-long courses in Geography at the 9th grade level and
International Relations in the 12th grade. Seniors complete a senior project on an international, debatable
topic.
Special programs offered by the school include: Advanced Placement and Honors courses, ESL
classes, Upward Bound in partnership with SF State and the University of San
Francisco, an Early Academic Outreach Program with UC Berkeley and a School to
Career Program. ISA has a strong sports
program, Summer Bridge program for incoming 9th graders, various
clubs, extracurricular activities, and an overseas travel/education
program. Trips have been taken to Costa
Rica, Japan and France; this year students will be traveling to Cuba. Students are required to complete a total of
100 hours of community service during their four years at ISA. Homework and tutoring help are available
after school until 5:00 pm.

Abraham Lincoln High School, a California
Distinguished School, offers a rigorous academic and extra curricular program
for all students. Located in San
Francisco’s Sunset district, the approximately 2400 students are offered a
comprehensive high school experience including college preparatory, honors and
advanced placement classes that meet the University of California and
California State University requirements.
Students are prepared for post secondary education and careers through a
variety of programs including Principles of Biotechnology, Architectural
Design, Advanced Drafting, the Academy of Business and Finance, Career
Vocational Education, and the Teacher Academy.
Lincoln students can also receive dual credits onsite from San Francisco
City College by taking classes such as Asian Studies.

Mission High School provides an academic rigorous
curriculum for all students. Students
in the 9th and 10th grades are enrolled in core classes
with a team of four teachers. These
students are required to have seven classes which exceed the district’s 240
units and meets universities’ prerequisites.
The 11th and 12th grade students have the
opportunity to enroll in an excellent school-to-career program which includes

Newcomer provides a one-year transitional

John O’Connell High School is a technology-based
high school that prepares students for careers in the 21st century

George Washington, in the Richmond District, offers

setting. Programs in business, visual

Our boy’s and girl’s athletics consists of 27 CIF competitive teams and

Life Learning Academy, a diploma-granting San

Hill across from the beautiful Alamo Square Park, a featured tourist
attraction. Ida B. Wells provides a
