A compliance complaint (SN-0178-99/00) was filed by parents of a San Francisco Unified School District special education student. The District was found out of compliance with IDEA 97. In order to correct the noncompliance, the California Department of Education has ordered the District to notify staff of the following Education Code 56345©.

  1. special education services (e.g. "pullout" vs. "push in" resource specialist

Program instruction) must be provided as delineated in a student's IEP and may not be changed outside of the IEP team process,

  2. classroom/program modifications/supports (e.g. extra time) must be provided as delineated in a student's IEP and are not at the discretion of individual staff members,
  3. the review of a student's IEP requires a formal IEP team meeting.
