A compliance complaint was filed by parents of a San Francisco Unified School District special education student. The District was found out of compliance with IDEA 97. In order to correct the noncompliance, the California Department of Education has ordered the District to notify all special education staff of the requirement that manifestation determination IEP meetings must be held no later than 10 school days after the decision to remove the child for more than 10 consecutive school days (e.g. expulsion). There can be no extension of this timeline.
