A compliance complaint (S-0369-00/01) was filed by parents of a San Francisco Unified School District special education student. The District was found out of compliance with IDEA 97. In order to correct the noncompliance, the California Department of Education has ordered the District to notify staff of the following Education Code 56504 and Education Code 56343.5©

EC56504: A parent shall have the right and opportunity to examine all school records of the child and to receive copies within 5 days after the parent makes such request, either orally or in writing.

EC56343.5©: A meeting of the individualized education program team requested by a parent to review an individualized education program pursuant to subdivision © of Section 56343 shall be held within 30 days, not counting days in July and August, from the date of receipt of the parent's written request. If a parent makes an oral request, the school district shall notify the parent of the need for a written request and the procedure for filing a written request.

Compliance with this requirement is mandatory.
