A compliance complaint (SN# 0051-99/00) was filed by parents of a San Francisco Unified School District special education student. The District was found out of compliance with IDEA 97. In order to correct the noncompliance, the California Department of Education has ordered the District to notify staff of the following of 34 Code of Federal Regulations 300.562(a) and Education Code 56504.

34 Code of Federal Regulations 300.562(a): Each participating agency shall permit parents to inspect and review any education records relating to their children that are collected, maintained, or used by the agency under this part. The agency shall comply with a request without any unnecessary delay and before any meeting regarding an IEP...

Education Code 56504 (Added Citation): The parent shall have the right and opportunity to examine all school records of the child and to receive copies pursuant to this section and to Section 49065 within five days after such request is made by the parent, either orally or in writing.
