San Francisco Unified School District 555 Franklin Street, 3rd Floor San Francisco, California 94102 (415) 241-6121

Welcome to the San Francisco Urban Systemic Program website!

The San Francisco Unified School District is proud to be part of the National Science Foundation's Urban Systemic Program. The San Francisco Urban Systemic Program (USP) is a cooperative program of the National Science Foundation and the San Francisco Unified School District.

Our vision for the SFUSD K-12 Urban Systemic Program is one that provides all students with a vigorous, engaging standards based curriculum which results in a scientifically, mathematically, and technologically literate citizenry. School communities will work together to build and sustain collaborative structures to insure the success of African-American, Latino and English Language Learners and significantly increase their academic achievement.

This site is designed to showcase USP accomplishments and highlight effective practices for implementing standards-based science and mathematics programs at schools.

The goals of the USP are:

To provide a district-wide program of instruction in mathematics, science and technology that challenges and prepares every student to successfully meet the graduation requirement of five years of college preparatory mathematics and science courses.

To establish coherent standards-based mathematics and science programs at each school that are facilitated by technology.

To provide all students with qualified teachers who have a sound knowledge of mathematics and/or science content, facility with technology, and knowledge of ways to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.

To provide professional development and support for teachers that enables them to create classroom environments focused on mathematical thinking and science inquiry as a framework for teaching and learning.

To ensure that technology is integrated into instructional programs, and student proficiency with technology is supported through quality instruction and appropriate equipment.

To develop student awareness and interest in career pathways in information technology, environmental sciences, and health and sciences.
To work with local partners and ensure that resources and services are coordinated to support mathematics and science education in the classroom.

I invite you to visit us through this website and share your thoughts and suggestions for advancing the goals of our USP program.
