List of Assumptions and Design Criteria
The Information Technology (IT) Pathway program:

1. Equips students with the standards-based, academic and career knowledge and skills (including SCANS skills) required for both:

  • Admission into post-secondary education institutions (including four-year universities);
  • Entry into an information technology cluster of related occupations.

2. Provides students with opportunities for work-based learning experiences connected to the curriculum.

3. Provides students with opportunities for concurrent enrollment in post-secondary education institutions.

4. Relies on the collaboration and sharing of resources between the San Francisco Unified School District, institutions of higher education, and industry for its development and implementation.

5. Addresses the mandates of both:

  • The San Francisco Urban Systemic Program (SF USP) initiative;
  • The San Francisco School-To-Career Partnership (SFSTCP).

6. Offers a model to be used for district-wide implementation as soon as the beginning of the 2000-01 school year.

7. Builds on research of best practices (including the work of the NorthWest Center for Emerging Technologies in Bellevue, Washington).
