Technology
has become an important aspect of the 21st century.
Medicine, science, communications, manufacturing, publishing, and
the arts all use tools of technology. VCRs, safety alarm systems,
telephones, and the ubiquitous automobile all contain circuit boards
and components of technology. Modern libraries utilize technology
to store and retrieve information. The lingua franca of this
technological age is no longer only manufactured goods but now is
information and its delivery systems. This makes it especially important
that we prepare students to focus upon the changes that are necessary
when information makes up a large part of the economy and culture.
Information
technology has become an essential element of a robust education
for the student who is well prepared for the workplace and for higher
education. The
well-informed student will be able to utilize word processing, spreadsheets,
and databases in academic work. Students will present data graphically
and will both research for information and publish to audiences,
using the internet.
In
addition to integrating technology into the curriculum, the Information
Technology Pathway also provides skills-based technology courses
which will enable interested students to enter and advance in the
workplace. A few examples of these courses are networking, web development,
programming, and A+ hardware and software support.
The
SFUSD Information Technology Pathway is currently under development
with the support of many valuable partners: San Francisco City College,
The University of California Berkeley, San Francisco School to Career
Partnership and its Information Technology Advisory Board, and the
school district's School To Career Office. Below you will be able
to examine different models for pathway development. You will also
find websites which describe current work at district schools. We
will be updating this website frequently so please come back and
visit us often.
