Immigration stories & 1.5 million breakfasts: Highlights for March 7 – 13, 2017

Highlights

Students at James Lick Middle School, with the help of their music teacher Keith Carames, have created an original musical revue about immigration. “Just in Case” revolves around a Latino, Jewish and Syrian family, and the play explores fears of emigrating to the U.S., the rewards some find here, and the trauma of being forced to flee a war. As part of the production, students will “break the fourth wall” and tell the audience the story of their own—not their characters’— families’ immigration to America. The production includes songs from the American Musical Theatre Repertoire.

In fact, SFUSD now offers several ways for students to get that first meal of the day—in the cafeteria, Grab ’n Go, Breakfast in the Classroom, and Second Chance. In all, SFUSD serves almost 1.5 million breakfasts each year.
