March School Meal Menus
Elementary Schools with Pre-K
Middle and High Schools
Currently the Elementary menu features one daily entree, usually with meat, a daily vegetarian option is available by advance request. An evolving food culture and recent improvements in school meals have led to an increase in demand for vegetarian meals here at SFUSD. We are currently serving over 20,000 freshly prepared lunches each day and these meals need to be ordered in advance to reduce waste and ensure product availability. As such, we currently need one weeks’ notice to the school cafeteria server when families would like to have vegetarian meals served to elementary school students.
However, we recognize that a normal family does not always plan lunches a week week in advance! That is why we are working to change this process as quickly and efficiently as possible to provide more options for our younger students.
We are in the process of implementing a new Elementary Choice Menu, a menu where students will have a choice of two different entrees, one of which will always be vegetarian. Under this new serving model, students and families will no longer have to preorder vegetarian meals; students will be able to take the vegetarian option if and when they like. We are currently piloting this program in select schools, and it will steadily expand to include the entire district by January of this school year.
Please refer to this website for news, and stay connected on SchoolLoop for announcements when we launch this menu at your child’s school. We thank you for your understanding and help while we improve this process.
