Alternatives to Yellow Bus Transportation

There are several transportation options available for youth and families in San Francisco. Below are resources for public transportation, carpooling, biking, and walking.

Free Muni Passes for SF Youth program

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is running a 16-month program to provide free Muni rides for low- and moderate-income students from ages 5-17. The program started in March 2015 and will continue through June 2016.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 5 and 17
  • Be a San Francisco resident
  • Fall under certain income requirements

Apply for the Free Muni for Youth program.

Muni routes serving city schools

Did you know most schools are within a five-minute walk of a Muni stop?

It's easy to ride transit to or from school. Every middle and high school in the San Francisco Unified School District is served by at least one Muni route. There's even a special "school trippers" service, the supplemental Muni routes that begin after school hours and serve middle and high schools throughout the city.
