Bus Stop Rules

It is your responsibility as parents and guardians to ensure your child's safety to and from the bus stop.

Bus Stop Rules to Know and Follow

While Waiting for the Bus

  • With the help of family members choose a safe way to get to and from the bus stop.
  • Use the same way each day.
  • Arrive five (5) minutes before the bus is scheduled to leave the stop.
  • Stay on the sidewalk while waiting for the bus.
  • Respect property and neighbors.
  • Be courteous and polite to other students.
  • Do not litter, make loud noises, play or place graffiti on any property around the stop.

While on the Bus

  • Go right to your seat quietly as soon as you enter the bus.
  • Put on your seat belt and stay in your seat until the bus has stopped at the school in the morning or at your stop in the afternoon.
  • Wait until the bus comes to a full stop before standing up to get off.
  • Leave sharp articles, glass articles and dangerous articles home, they are not allowed on the bus.
  • Make special arrangements with your teacher if animals are to be brought to school. Pets and other animals cannot be carried on the bus.
  • Respect bus equipment. Take good care of the school bus.
  • Obscene or profane language is not to be used.
  • Keep hands off bus windows and all other bus equipment. Only the driver may open or close windows and doors.
  • Keep all parts of the body and all belongings inside the bus.
  • Keep voices soft. For a safe ride, the driver must be able to hear and respond to traffic conditions.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted on the bus.

When Leaving the Bus

  • Cross the street with the driver in front of the bus, when your stop is at a place without stop signs or stop lights.
  • Obey the bus driver, who is your friend. Help the driver and the driver will help you. Work together for a safe, happy bus ride.

Good Behavior is a Must

A quiet, orderly ride is a safe ride.

Citations

The bus driver will issue a citation to any child who fails to obey the rules. The principal will see that citations are properly handled and filed.

First Citation

The principal will:

  • Talk it over with the child or children involved.
  • Send the citation home, mailing if necessary.
  • A copy of the citation must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the school.
  • The parent or guardian may keep a copy.

Second Citation

The principal will:

  • Talk it over with the child or children involved.
  • Confer with the parents or guardian.
  • Inform the parents or guardian that if behavior does not improve a 3 to 5 day suspension of bus riding privileges might take place with the next citation.
  • Give the citation to the parent at the conference or mail it home.
  • A copy of the citation must be signed by the parent or guardian and returned to the school.
  • The parent may keep a copy

Third Citation

The principal will:

  • Notify the home that a citation has been issued.
  • Suspend the offenders’ riding privileges 3 to 5 days.

Fourth Citation

The principal will:

  • Notify the home that a citation has been issued.
  • Suspend the offenders’ riding privileges for up to the remainder of the school year.

Please note

Bus riding privledges may be suspended on a first citation if the offense is of a serious and/or dangerous nature. Having bus riding privledges suspended does not relieve the parent or guardian of the responsibility of the child's attendance at school.
