How does it work?

To realize the vision and mission, SHPD is structured to implement the Comprehensive School Health Program model in order to create Safe Schools supported by Youth Development tenets.

Advisory Committees

To provide overall direction and guidance related to the Comprehensive School Health Program, an advisory committee has been established:

Comprehensive School Health Program Advisory Committee

This committee meets quarterly and is comprised of program staff from the following SFUSD Departments: Pupil Services, Integration, Special Education, Bilingual Education, Physical Education, Nutrition Services, Human Resources, State and Federal Funded Programs, and School Operations. In addition, the committee includes representatives from: San Francisco Department of Public Health (Community Substance Abuse, Tobacco Free Project, STD/HIV Prevention), San Francisco Police Department, San Francisco Private and Parochial Schools, Parent Teachers Association, Elementary, Middle, and High School Parent Advisory Committees, and the Lesbian and Gay Parents Association. The purposes of this committee are:

To ensure that school health programs and services are culturally appropriate and address the diverse needs of school-aged children and their families.

  • To make recommendations about school health programs and services as required by state and federal funding sources.
  • To enhance collaborative efforts related to school health programs and services.
  • To identify and maximize access to existing community health-related programs and services by school-aged children and their families.
