Graduation from San Francisco Public High Schools requires the
successful completion of at least 220 credits, which are accumulated
at the rate of 30 per semester; 60 per school year in Grades 9,
10,11 and 12. These credits may be earned in the classroom or
through other supervised activity - including work experience.

a. U.S. History: 1 year required
One year of United States history taken in the 9th grade or later,
or one-half year of United States history and one-half year of
civics or American Government. (Beginning with applicants for
fall 1994, two years of history/social science will be required,
including one year of U.S. history or one-half year of U.S. history
and one-half year of civics or American government; and one year
of world history, cultures, and geography.)
b. English: 4 years required
Four years of college preparatory English ó composition
and literature.
c. Mathematics: 3 years required, 4 recommended
Three years of mathematics. Must consist of three years of college
preparatory mathematics which include the topics covered in elementary
and advanced algebra and two and three dimensional geometry.
d. Laboratory Science: 1 year required, 3 recommended
A one-year course in a laboratory science, taken in the 10th,
11th, or 12th grade. (Beginning with applicants for fall 1994,
two years of laboratory science will be required, including fundamental
knowledge in at least two of these three areas; biology, chemistry,
and physics.)
e. Languages Other than English: 2 years required, 3 recommended
Two years of a language other than English.
f. College Preparatory Elective Courses: 4 years required
These units are to be chosen from at least two of the following areas; social science, visual and performing arts, history, English, advanced mathematics, laboratory science, and languages other than English. (Beginning with applicants for fall 1994, two years of college preparatory electives will be required.)
