Exclusive viewing of the Hale-Bopp Comet

Galileo Academy of Science and Technology - the only high school in California with its own observatory - invited the public to "A Night Under the Stars," on Friday, March 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Galileo is located at Van Ness and Francisco Street. This star-studded event marks the dedication of the recently re-built observatory, and a chance for the public to support quality science education.

"A Night Under the Stars" will feature world-renowned astronomer, Dr. Fred K.Y. Lo, speaking about "Recent evidence for Massive Black Holes." Dr. Lo is the Chairperson of the Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois, and the designated Director of the Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics in Taiwan. An added highlight of the evening will be a private viewing of the Hale-Bopp Comet.

Formerly known as Galileo High School, the Academy has become a model for teaching science and technology, showing how a school and the greater community can rally to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. This collaboration includes support from the Exploratorium, San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers, The Rotary Club of Fisherman's Wharf, Blue Shield of California, Christmas in April, the U.S. Navy and Americorps.
