3/27/2003 ESL department meeting minutesPresent: Fan Fang, Ed Zilch, Selina Mok, Don Pino, Yen Carlson 1. Two-Way CABE: This year's two-way CABE will be in San Francisco during July 22 to July 25. Registration material is available for anyone who is interested in going. The department can pay for the registration. 2. Budget for next year: The EIA/LEP budget is presented to the department. There will be a 63% cut comparing to this year's budget. We can only afford one paraprofessional for a 6-hour day. Department members would like the administration to consider not consolidating any paraprofessionals. We recommend that offering each of our paras a 3-hour/day position to prevent losing of the position. 3. Professional development day: It was originally planned for December last year but Ms. Davis was concerned that there might be a training for ESL teachers. So the day was changed to 1/9/2003 and she approved it by putting an "OK" and her name on the agenda. However, there was the budget freeze and we had to change the day to May 1. The original paper work was submitted again to Mr. Chung for budget approval. It has been approved and we are now ready for this day. The agenda is on our web site. The main focus will be on completing this year's LALAR requirement. 4. Other concerns. Meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m. |
