09-07-2005 department meeting:

1. Flo Morodomi is not at school and may not be able to come back this semester.

2. Next Thursday the short schedule may be back.

3. Anything that needs to be included in the PTSA newsletter needs to be put in the PTSA box by 9/14.

4. Leadership institute flyer (sponsored by the SFUSD and SF Ed Fund) for people who are interested in going into administration.

5. WASC focus: Mr. Pang and Ms. Meszaros met with the visiting team leader

- Make it easy for yourself! Make everything achievable: focus on 3 to 5 high priorities at school. Don't try to "fix all problems." Focus on what we can control here at the school and not to get into something that we cannot change (e.g., how the Federal and State fund us; the district's new requirements...etc.)

- The self study is a process and the WASC team is expecting to see the product of it.

- We need to do a lot of data analysis. We should be able to use data to reflect our progress.

- WASC visiting team consists of seven members and they will visit every teacher in the building.

- WASC timeline was distributed: Ms. Meszaros will assign specific task to all focus groups. WASC leaders will be going to different focus groups to see if everyone is on task.

- The WASC leadership team is a nice cross section of the school. At next week's faculty meeting, the team will present to the faculty on what the WASC progress is.

- All department members should take a look at the standards. We should all know where to find them; what to do with them and how to make sure that students have access to standards.

6. Things have been happening: yesterday we almost had a major fight due to last Friday's incident at 19^th Ave where a 9^th grader of our school and students from other schools were involved. It might be gang related. More sophomores are showing the gang colors (red and blue) and teachers should help to pay attention to students' notebooks and worksheets for possible graffiti designers.
