September 22, 2005 ELD Department/Cross Department Meeting
Notes
Meeting convened by Mr. Fang at approximately 11:55 a.m. See attendance list
for attendees.
1. Introduction of Valerie Chen, the new department paraprofessional.
Ms. Chen will work 6 hours/day, As part of her responsibilities she will:
 | take care of books and supplies |
 | be available to make Ccantonese and Mandarin parent calls. |
 | assist in class |
- Please request parent call assistance using student referral form.
Classroom help needs Mr. Fang's approval.
- All department members should stop by her desk to select the
reclassification envelopes for their students.
- There are 20 new students arriving at Lincoln this week with an ELD
requirement.
2. After school tutoring
Three teachers needed: one math, one science and one English/Social
Science.
Pay is $26/hr. for 3 hrs/wk: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after the 6th
or 7th period. There is approval for 84 hours per teacher for the
year. Each teacher needs to prepare his/her own flyer. Interested teachers
should contact Mr. Waxman
3. CELDT
There are 560 ELL's at ALHS this year.The largest number of all schools in
the district. 20 additional students are being added this week. 102 students
have been reclassified and will move to general English classes next semester.
4. CCR Compliance Check
Textbooks:complete count by Monday
Dictionaries will be available for classroom sets. Lock up after class.
Parent translations: For parent letters, use progress reports in different
languages (from the department office).
5. Parent Open House
Mr. Fang will try to provide information sheets about ESL/ELD in Chinese,
English, Spanish, etc.
