1. Teachers studied the California English Language
Development Content and Performance Standards and Abraham Lincoln High
School ESLRs and each took one ESLR to align to appropriate standards and
sample assignments.
2. After teachers completed this task, we discussed how we
could better articulate our expectations based on requirements from both the
CA standards and the ESLRs within the same ELD level and across the ELD
levels.
3. As a result from the discussion, the department
developed a writing types instruction matrix as a writing instruction guidance
for all ELD teachers to follow. A rubric for each writing type was also passed
out to each ELD teacher to study. Next meeting, we will be discussing how we
can use a common rubric to assess students' writing.
4. Eventually, the ESL/Bilingual department's ELD teachers
will develop a common assessment practice based on CA standards and the ESLRs.
The meeting adjourned at 3:12 p.m.
