INSTRUCTOR - Mr. Fan Fang. I can be reached in room 130 at lunch. My phone number at school is 759-2718, and my email address is colorful_years (NO SPAM)@hotmail.com Please feel free to contact me. This is a rigorous, college preparatory course in introductory biology and it is accepted by UC. The focus will be on developing problem solving skills, both for book problems and for laboratory activities. Web based lectures will be introduced this year to the course. To enhance learning and to prepare the students with the necessary collaborative skills which lead to success in college or in the workplace, cooperative learning will be emphasized throughout the course.

TUTORING - Individual tutoring will be offered after school and at lunch most days of the week.

Although all students are encouraged to take advantage of this service provided voluntarily by teachers and AP Biology students, those students who have a two week progress report failing grade will be required to addend an hour a week.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT - About every two weeks a grade sheet will be sent home with the student for the parent to sign. Parents and guardians are encouraged to take an active role, especially by checking the daily homework assignments for neatness and completeness. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

GRADES - The semester grade equals the number of points earned by the student divided by the total possible points for the whole semester (including the semester exam which is about 20% of the semester grade and which is not listed separately on the report card). Tests and quizzes will be the main part of the grade, followed in importance by lab reports then homework. The grade scale is as follows:

DEPORTMENT - Students will be held to the high standards of conduct as expressed in the California Education Code. Lab safety is of paramount importance and students not adhering to the safety rules will be removed from the class. Use of safety eye wear and refraining from eating or drinking during class are especially important. Cheating will not be tolerated. Consequences include getting double points off, a permanent note in the student's record, denial of college scholarships and an unsatisfactory grade for deportment.
