CELDT: California English Language Development Test

School Year 2001-2002 was the first year that CELDT was implemented through out the State of California to reflect the newly adopted California State English Language Development Standards.

At Abraham Lincoln High School, two teachers received the CELDT training from the district during summer and offered a workshop to all staff members on the site professional development day when the school year 2001-2001 started.

During the testing window (May to October), we tested all students who are classified as English Learners.

The CELDT has three parts:

The oral component is a 15 to 20 minutes one on one test. Students will answer questions orally and retell a story. Their answer will be taped and transcribe to their test booklet by the test administrator.

The reading and written component are 60-minute each group testing.

The CELDT is a mandatory test and will be given to all English Learners once a year for better recording their English acquisition progress and program placement.
