Redesignated Student Follow-up Procedure

  1. After 6 months and one year from the redesignation date, each former ELL will receive a "Follow-up Form" from Room 130, the ESL/Bilingual office.
  2. The student will take the follow-up form to his/her English teacher and ask the English teacher to evaluate his/her English proficiency by completing questions 1 to 4.
  3. The student will also need the teacher or counselor to put down his last report card grade on English, Social Studies or Science, and Math.
  4. The student comes to see Mr. Fan Fang in Room 130 with the completed form.
  5. If Mr. Fang determines that no program change is needed, then he will tell the student to take this form home to get the parent signature indicating that the parents agree that the student will remain in the general education program. The form will be sent to the principal's office for the principal to review.
  6. If the principal agrees on the follow-up review, he will sign the "Follow-up Form" and the form will be sent back to Room 130.
  7. Mr. Fang will send the form to the district's Multilingual Programs department for approval.
  8. After the form is approved by the district and sent back to site, Mr. Fang will make one copy for the student's folder in Room 130 and place the original form in the student's CUM folder in Room 149, the counseling office.
  9. At any time, parents have the right to request that the student be placed back to ESL program by coming to school and submitting a letter.
  10. If an administrator or a staff thinks that the student should be placed back to the ESL program because he/she has not been able to handle the regular course work, a conference with the English teacher, the counselor, the ESL department head, the principal, the parent, and the student will be scheduled to review and discuss the student's placement.
