    Attendance

Punctuality and good attendance are necessary for academic achievement. To ensure your student’s success, please have a plan of how to get your student to school on time. Parents can help their children succeed in school by staying in touch with their student’s lives. You should help them plan their after school activities and get to know their friends. School supervision ends at 4:00 pm.

    Absences/Permits to Leave

If a student is going to be absent, the parent must call the attendance secretary the morning of the absence at 759-2776. Upon return to school, students are required by law to bring a note to the homeroom teacher. A parent or guardian must sign the note that includes the date, the number of days absent, and the reason for the absence.

Permits to leave school grounds early will be given by the counseling officeat the beginning of school. A note from the parent or guardian must explain the need to leave early and have the date and time the student needs to be excused.

Parents are encouraged to schedule medical, dental, and other appointments during non-school hours or try to have students attend school before or after their appointments. This is due to the fact that excused absences are no longer included in the daily attendance counts, and the San Francisco School District loses money whenever a student is absent from class.

    Tardiness

Tardy students are those who are not in homeroom at 9:15 am or are late to a class during the day. A phone call or letter will notify parents of students who are tardy to school more than three times. Students may be asked to attend lunch-time/after school detention or do campus clean-up.

    Truancy

Minors are required by law to attend school on a regular basis. Parents will be notified of cutting. If truancy or cutting persists, disciplinary actions will be taken. See pages 49-50 of the District Parent Handbook.
