General Policies
Behavior
A. P. Giannini students are expected to follow our five classroom rules: (1) follow instructions; (2) come prepared and be on time; (3) keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself; (4) no cursing, bullying, name-calling, put downs, or harassment; and (5) follow the SFUSD student handbook. Additionally, as detailed in each student’s binder reminder, it is expected that students will follow all behavior expectations, for example: attend school daily, be respectful and responsible, bring only school appropriate items to school, keep the school and surrounding areas clean and litter free, and dress in a style that is conducive to learning.
Traffic
Caution: Sunset Boulevard is a major thoroughfare with heavy traffic. Please be cautious and smart when coming to and leaving school. Students should walk where there are crosswalks and traffic lights. Parents are not to double park on Ortega Street or drive into the parking lot when dropping off and picking up students. Use the white zone in front of the school as loading zone only. If you are going to park, please use 37th Avenue.
Emergency Preparedness
Fire and Earthquake drills are held periodically at school to practice safety in emergency situations. In the event of an earthquake, students will remain in the supervision of the school staff until a parent or guardian comes to get the student. Adults must come with photo ID and be listed on the student’s emergency card. The emergency card must be filled out and returned the first week of school in order for students to be issued hall lockers.
P. E. Uniforms
All students are required to wear SFUSD physical education uniforms as part of their P.E. requirements. Uniforms can be purchased through the A. P. Giannini PE department. The combined cost of the shirt and shorts is $25.00. Uniforms will be available for sale during the second week of school from their P.E. teacher. PE uniforms are to be worn only during PE classes and spirit days.
Lockers
Hall lockers will begin to be assigned during the second week of school once all required forms (emergency cards, lunch applications, behavior rules, weapons’ slip, SFUSD Handbook page, etc.) are returned by the student. They cannot be used prior to that time. For security reasons, it is recommended that you purchase two Master locks, No. 1500 or 1525, one for the hall locker and one for the PE locker. For security reasons, scratch off at least the first two numbers on the back of the lock.
Library
The school library is open for students Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Students who would like to read or work on school assignments during lunch must pick up a library pass from a morning teacher or from a teacher the previous day. More information about the library
Lunch/Lunchtime Activities
We encourage all students to make healthy food chocies both at school and at home. A good breakfast and a healthy lunch can make a positive difference in your student’s day at school. Students may buy lunches either in the cafeteria or at the beanery. Hot plate lunches are served in the cafeteria. A free or reduced breakfast/lunch is available for qualifying students. Forms are distributed in homeroom the first week of school. All students are asked to return these forms.
Intramural opportunities like soccer, badminton, basketball, volleyball, and tennis are available for students to participate in during lunch. Please encourage your student to form a team of friends and have fun.
Many of the clubs meet at lunchtime. You shoul ask your student what they do during lunchtime.
