History
A. P. Giannini Middle School, located in the Sunset District, opened its doors in 1954. We are the namesake of A. P. Giannini, the founder of Bank of America, who dedicated himself to helping others to help themselves. We have been fortunate to have the Giannini Family Foundation adopt our school. The Claire Giannini Foundation funds our 6th grade tolerance program. In addition, through the Foundation’s generosity each student receives a Binder Reminder to write down his or her daily and long term assignments. We want to invite all alumni to help celebrate the 50th anniversary. We honor each of you, our alumni, and the Giannini Family for making this school one of the best.
Our school has a rich and culturally diverse student body and implements a wide variety of programs to meet student needs. All students participate in the Positive School Environment Program. Awards are given for grades, citizenship, attendance, and service. There are English Language Learners (ELL) with bilingual assistance and a GATE/Honors program. A special education program assists students with learning disabilities and severe handicaps. The Sunset Beacon Center, an after school community program, offers tutoring and classes for students and adults.
Students can select from a variety of school clubs, and participate in a full elective program, including the school’s renowned band, orchestra and choir. All departments and programs have been involved in community activities. In addition, A.P. Giannini has an active School Site Council that utilizes a site-based management model.
