    Parent Involvement/Participation

    Visits

Parents who wish to visit should make an appointment with the counseling office or individual teacher. Parent assistance is often needed on school activities such as dances, field trips and school events. Non-enrolled youth or relatives are not allowed at school by district policy. Visitors are required to register at the main office before visiting classrooms. Parents are encouraged to visit during evening performances, events, Open House, Back to School Night, Science Fair and support our sports teams, clubs, music department and activities.

    Communications

Students have daily bulletins read and posted in homeroom to keep them informed of school events. On Wednesdays, parents and guardians should expect to receive the “Wednesday Envelope” from school. This envelope contains notices from teachers, administrators, the district, and the PTA. Each student is expected to have the parent initial it. The student must return the initialed envelope to school to be sure each parent/guardian received the A. P. Giannini communication. Other important material such as report card grades and general program information will be mailed to your residence.

Telephone messages for students are discouraged. If the message is important, please contact the student’s counselor. You cannot request that a student be brought to the phone, and no other school personnel can accept or deliver messages to students. Students will not be permitted to call from school asking for permission to go to a friend’s home, a game after school, or other non-emergency requests.

    Conferences

Parent conferences with a team or core of teachers are available by appointment. If a parent wishes to meet with one teacher, an individual appointment can be made by contacting the counselor or teacher. Use the master schedule inside to contact teachers during their prep period, when they are not in class.
