 Welcome

Welcome to A. P. Giannini Middle School

    Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers,

You are an integral part of your child’s successful academic, social, physical, and emotional experience at A. P. Giannini Middle School. This parent handbook is a guide to enable you to access the school’s resources and personnel. We hope that you will use this as a tool to build a partnership with teachers and other staff members.

We count on you to be an active parent in the following ways. Please join the PTA and contribute to the Jaguar fund. Ask your student for the Wednesday Envelope and read the information given. Check on your student’s progress by asking to see his/her Binder Reminder for assignments and to check for completed homework. All of us working together, parents, students, and staff will contribute to a successful school year for all!

    A. P. Giannini Middle School, located in the Sunset District, opened its doors in 1954. We are the namesake of the founder of the Bank of America, who dedicated himself to helping others to help themselves. We have been fortunate to have the Giannini Family Foundation adopt our school. The Claire Giannini Foundation funds our 6th grade tolerance program. In addition, through the Foundation’s generosity, each student receives a Binder Reminder to write down his/her daily and long term assignments.

Our school has a rich and culturally diverse student body and implements a wide variety of programs to meet student needs. All students participate in the Positive School Environment Program. Awards are given for grades, citizenship, attendance, and service. There are English Language Learners (ELL) with bilingual assistance and a GATE/Honors program. A special education program assists students with learning disabilities and severe disabilities. The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center offers after school tutoring and classes for students and adults. Sunset Youth Services’ staff members mentor and tutor students.

Students can select from a variety of school clubs and participate in a full elective program including:art, drama, guitar, band, orchestra, and choir. All departments and programs have been involved in community activities. In addition, A.P. Giannini has an active School Site Council that utilizes a site-based management model.

All community members are encouraged to participate in our endeavor to provide a high quality standards-based curriculum. We welcome each and every one of you to A. P. Giannini, where we promote a standards-based curriculum, equity of access to resources, and community-based partnerships.

    Thank you,

    Leslie Trook, Principal
