Jr. Webmasters

Bryant Elementary School, A Pacific Bell Education First Demonstration Site

Instructor: Virginia Davis
Grade Level: 3-5
Subject: Language Arts, Technology
Technology: Internet, E-mail, Videoconferencing

Virginia Davis, Technology Coordinator at Bryant Elementary School, works with a group of third, fourth, and fifth grade students who are becoming the school's Junior Webmasters. As students create articles and graphics to attach to Bryant School's homepage, students are improving their writing, interviewing, oral communication, artistic, and technological skills. Students, working individually and in pairs on projects, are mentored by journalism students from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles via e-mail and videoconferencing. The high school mentors provide powerful role models, as well as concrete assistance on the projects.

"As the students develop skills, they also develop a pride and confidence in their work that leads them to push the limits of their skills further. The Junior Webmasters are role models to other students as they bring their technological skills back into the classroom."
