Family Stories

Summary of the Family Stories Project:

In the spring of 2005, Ms. Hanible’s third grade class participated in multiple story telling and photography workshops. When the workshops were completed, each student was given a disposable camera to bring home and take candid pictures of their family members. Once the pictures were developed, students wrote stories reflecting the imagery found in their photographs. The goal for the students was to discover, “What makes my family unique?”

A digital media specialist, Christina Noyes filmed students while they shared their pictures and stories. A video collage of the students’ photographs and stories were compiled and edited into a celebratory video entitled Family Stories. The project was a major success and a mom even shed a tear of happiness while watching the premier of the Family Stories video. All students received a copy of the video to take home to share with their families and to have as a keepsake of the project.
