By: Gary Qiu You might have already know a little bit about eighth grade, but there are a few things that you should keep in mind. Things such as homework, the importance of GPA, how to prepare and apply for the high school you want to go to, behaviors and expectations in class, different schedules, and of course, graduation. Eighth grade is a year that students might fail very easily and it is really hard even if you are in ESL or regular class. There might be more homework than you might ever get in one day. The schedules are very different from the ones that you get in 6th and 7th grade. You might get a maximum of 5 teachers. The PE period is usually in the morning, before 4th period. The other classes just depend on the class that you are in such as honors, regular, or ESL. Tests are harder in 8th grade, so study more so you won't fail the tests and score a higher score. Good behavior is also an important thing that a student must possess. If you get more than 4 U's (unsatisfactory) in one report card, you won't be able to graduate on stage. Also, if you get a certain amount of U's, you might not be able to go to field trips or other activities. Preparing for high school is mostly what eighth grade is about. In the first semester or before December, you will have to apply for a high school that you want to go to. The GPA (grade point average) that you get in the final semester report card will affect which high school that you will go to. The people in the high school will pick the students that they want to be in their school according to the GPA that a student gets. In the beginning of June, students are really happy because they were able to survive the most difficult year out of the whole middle school. Graduation is a big part of someone's life. In a person's life, most only get to graduation about 4 times, in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college. 8th is a year that you might find difficulties, but if you try hard enough, you will get pass it and have a more successful life.
