THE COUNSELING OFFICE
Counseling Office Phone: 415.291.7906
The Counseling office is located on the first floor of the main building. Many of you might have been there since the counseling office has many important jobs for our school. For example, that's where the nurse works and those of you that have taken the attendance know that that's where you drop off the attendance strips. Along with the many uses of the counseling office, it is also where some very important people's offices are. Who am I talking about? The counselors of course. After all, it is called the "counseling office".
The counseling office hours are from 8:55 AM to 3:21 PM. Counselors support the students when they need someone to talk to, call parents if there's discipline trouble, and work on solutions. Some resources the counseling office has or can recommend to help students are the Francisco Connection, peers resources, outside agencies, and interns who work at Francisco. One thing students at each grade level should do to get prepared to move on to the next level is to work hard in their classes. For eighth graders, many students are scared about their placement in high school. Many are happy with their placements while there are some who are unhappy about it. However, if students focus, they will succeed in their high school.
Mr. ChanMoving on, to our 7th grade counselor, Mr. Chan. His job is to also "discipline" kids but the 7th graders. He counsels with them and talks to their families when needed. He has been in the SFUSD for 7 years and he has been at Francisco for 2 years. According to Mr. Chan his favorite part of the job is that he gets to see teens become more mature and responsible adults. However, he hates it when the students don't listen to him. I guess he better learn that kids don't listen to adults all of the time. Before he started to work for the school district, he worked at a supermarket. And even before that he wanted to be a wealthy business man.
Ms. Padilla
As our school's attendance secretary, Ms. Padilla works with the attendance, typing documents for counselors, and calling parents of the students. She has been at Francisco for almost 10 years working at the same position. Ms. Padilla likes her job but doesn't like seeing students being disrespectful. Before working at Francisco, she wasn't sure what field she wanted to be in. Before she became our school's attendance secretary, she worked at an insurance company.
