The Applied Learning and Linkages (ALL) Program
is a collaboration between Galileo and two community-based organizations--
Community Educational Services and Chinese for Affirmative Action. ALL
is an innovative approach to improving public education and expanding educational
and career opportunities for all students. As Galileo continues its transformation
from a traditional high school to an Academy of Science and Technology
in order to offer high quality education to its students, the ALL Program
has been created to support the teachers and students in this change. While
the administration structures the school to create a School-to-Career system
focusing on four career pathway themes – environmental science, biological
science, creative media, and pre-engineering, ALL has been asked to support
School-to-Career at the classroom level. To that end, ALL works with teachers
to integrate STC into their curriculum and facilitates the participation
and leadership of teachers and students in this school-wide effort. Consequently,
all 1800 Galileo students will learn academic, career, and life skills
from a curriculum that has been proven to re-engage students in their academics
and prepare students for challenging post-secondary college and career
options. ALL and Galileo’s combined efforts will work to reduce drop-out
rates, improve attendance, increase graduation rates, increase college
matriculation, increase employability, increase student motivation, and
create an overall positive change in school climate.
