Conditions, Rules, and Acceptable Use Agreement

Students must understand and practice proper and ethical use of the internet. The use of the school's telecommunications system is a privilege, not a right. Inappropriate use, including any violation of these conditions and rules, may result in cancellation of the privilege and other disciplinary action. The school has the authority to determine appropriate use and may deny, revoke, or suspend a student's privilege if the student violates this acceptable use policy. Incoming and outgoing transmissions may be monitored.
  • Transmission of any material in violation of any federal or California Laws is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to transmitting copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. In addition to loss of privileges, students violating California or federal laws are subject to criminal prosecution.

  • In accordance with SFUSD policy as stated in your Student Handbook, slurs and hate material are prohibited.

  • Use for commercial activities is not acceptable. Use for product advertisement or political lobbying is also prohibited.

  • Vandalism and harassment will result in cancellation of user privileges and possible criminal charges. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm, modify, or destroy data of another user. This includes, but is not limited to, uploading or creating of computer viruses. Harassment is defined as the persistent annoyance of another user, or the interference of another user's work. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, the sending of unwanted mail.

  • Hacking or tampering with programs and network systems is prohibited, including attempting to log on to any network administrator.

  • Do not reveal or lend personal passwords for user accounts.

  • Follow written or oral classroom instructions. Often websites will be specified by your teacher rather than requiring the use of search engines. The teacher(s) in charge of the class has discretion in enforcing these rules and adding others for a particular assignment or classroom.

  • Students needing computers for academic purposes get priority over those using computers for non-academic purposes.

  • If you encounter offensive or forbidden materials, exit immediately. If trapped, turn off the monitor and report it to faculty/staff in charge.

  • Conserve supplies such as paper and ink.
