Joining New Clubs, Starting New Year
by Annie Tsang
This year's Club Day, which was held on Friday, September 15, 2001, started off our school year with great fervor and cheer. The bustling students exchanged information regarding their club, and most of the clubs present in the courtyard were: the Black Student Union (BSU), Chinese Culture Club, Class Pep Clubs, Academic Decathlon Team, Robotics Club, Service Interact, Book Club, Recycling, and Red Cross.
Club day saw performances out on by the Galileo Cheerleading squad and the Capoeira Club, which is a group that practices a form of Brazilian martial arts, followed up the act with an entertaining display of acrobatics and flexibility.
"Club Day went smoothly and was huge success!" said Associate Student Body (ASB) President, Rina
Phou. Many students feel that Club Day is an extremely beneficial time to get exposed to the different types of clubs in our school.
Andrew Wong, a freahman, expresses, "I think it is a great idea to have Club Day. I learned a lot about the different types of clubs today."
As many students shared, Club Day pitches the doors wide open for students to become actively involved in extracurricular activities in their school community.
Some students believe that the clubs are :old-fashioned abd don't do much" except for raising money to one-time, insignificant, end of the school year events.
The purpose of Club Day, according to the adminstration, is to promote and encourage school spirit.
"I join clubs because I kow college look for more than just good grades and AP classes; colleges want students that have values and contribute to the community," said one student.
