Galileo Students Encourages To Buy ASB Stickers
by Eric Ho and Ivan Zhu
Galileo has been asking students to buy ASB stickers, but is it worth your money?
Students with ASB stickers can get discounts on dances, yearbooks, and administration for sport events, but many students complain that the ASB stickers are not as beneficial as it was planned to be.
The ASB stickers are one of the sources to fundraise for the ASB. The money from the ASB stickers goes to the Student Body account.
"We use the money for a number of projects," said ASB advisor, Kevin Kerr.
Before the ASB stickers, people had Student Body cards, which was just a student ID card without a student photo.
Later, the idea of having a student photo and barcode on the Student ID card was brought up by Mr. Eugene Wing, a Science teacher here at Galileo. The idea of having a barcode on the ID card is mostly for the convenience of the students. It was intended for checking out books
from the library, receiving free lunches in the cafeteria, and getting lockers. None of these ideas followed through, except the library card idea. ASB stickers were finally brought up so students could get discounts for dances, admission to sport games, yearbooks, etc.
Athletes, club officers, and Associated Student Body officers are required to have ASB stickers.
The number of ASB stickers sold is calculated for class competitions. The more ASB stickers sold, the more points a class
earns.
Some students don't want to purchase ASB stickers. David Mckinly, when asked to comment on ASB stickers, said, "I don't want it ... No, because it costs too much. No, because I'm too lazy."
The ASB stickers are being sold in the room next to the Attendance Office for $5.00 each.
