How Shallow Can One Get?

How many people only pay attention to the outer appearance of the opposite sex rather than to the inner beauty of the person? More than you may think.

Consider your friends and yourself. Do you and your buddies hang around talking about unattractive girls or boys most of the time? I do not think so. However, I bet you do converse over the pretty girls or handsome guys without ever getting to know the real him or her, right?

Shallow Hal, a romantic comedy, tells the story of a man named Hal who is very shallow-minded. Hal only concerns himself with the outer beauty of women and not their inner beauty, thinking that appearance is all he needs to substitute love. He is not a great looking man himself, but he wants elegance in his women. He tries dating women beyond his league, but he is never really able to get one. He has always been a loser when it comes to women since he is unattractive.

His view of women changed one day after meeting a professional who brain washed people’s minds toward certain views. Hal meets this guy in an elevator and becomes brainwashed after a long chat. The guy tells Hal not to look at the visual aspect of the women he meets, but to look for the inner beauty of the person. So after the long chat, Hal starts seeing previously-unattractive women as super model-like beauties. I do not want to give away all the details, so you will have to go see the movie yourself if it sounds interesting.

The movie sends out a message to both men and women out there to search for real love deep inside and not just the well-shaped figures that appear on the outside. Some people may agree to this, and for some, this idea would seem outrageous. I mean, why would you go out on a date with a buffalo when you could go out with an angel?

The storyline of the movie is quite interesting, unlike many movies out there today that have no point. This movie’s theme is based on the facts of this world and not just some made up baloney.

Overall, I would give this movie a rating of seven out of a possible ten. It is half comedy and half romance. It is really funny and somber at the same time. If you are a really picky type of person when it comes to dating, and you hardly ever find a date, I recommend you to go watch this movie and see if it changes your mind a bit.
