During the 1998-99 school year, teachers at James Lick Middle School received funding for our

"Graph The Math Staff Project"

from

ESEA Title VI

The purpose of this project was to determine whether or not providing technology training that was strongly curriculum driven, peer developed and supported, and modeled when necessary, would improve and increase the number of lessons teachers do with their classes. We narrowed our research down to one math strand, specifically, creating spreadsheets, graphs and charts. Our goal for each grade level was two lessons with special education modifications. We attained that goal in sixth and eighth grades. In seventh grade, we were able to design five lessons. However, we did not complete the special education modifications for 7th grade. Two of our 7th grade activities are in Spanish because we have a Spanish Immersion class in 7th grade math & science. All grade levels participated and all classes completed at least one of the lessons.

If you'd like to see and use our lessons, we've made them available on the following web pages. We did all of the work in ClarisWorks 4.0. You may freely copy the text from the web pages and use the lessons. If you'd like to have a copy of the ClarisWorks documents which include the spreadsheets, charts and graphs, just send me an email.

You can read about the project at Learning Network.
