Pre-Computer Lab Activities:

1. Class discussion of glossary, how it works and what it should look like, students will use text books to see how a glossary is put together.

2. Class discussion of exactly how to alphabetize and why it's a useful skill.

3. Teacher will have book marked and/or set up lesson using web site for student use.

Procedure:

Note: Teacher will walk through the entire lesson with students, using the overhead projector to model procedure.

1. Students will get into their pairs, one pair per computer workstation.

2. One student partner will open the Glossary Template

3. Student will open this folder and then rename it "Student's Name Glossary". Next they will save this document into their personal folder.

4. Students will then go to Dictionary Page and open to one of the preselected dictionaries.

5. Students will open a spread sheet document.

6.Teacher will then model how to split the screen to use both their spread sheet and net dictionary.

7. Teacher will then model how to copy and paste from the web site to the spread sheet.

8. Students will each take a turn copying and pasting one word from their glossary on to the spread sheet.

9. When students have completed one page of the glossary, they will then save it.

10. Next they will highlight it and then go to the top of the screen , to the area, marked calculate. The students will scroll down calculate to sort and click on sort. They will see the word range, which should list all the cells highlighted and then click O.K.

This will allow students to alphabetize both the definitions and the words.
