Behavior Management Plan

Deborah Estell

At John Muir School, children will feel safe physically and emotionally. They will respect themselves, one another, and the environment. The values of kindness, courtesy, patience, listening, understanding and sharing will be taught. The idea of friendship will be explorered in every classroom. children will be expetd to take care of themselves and one another.
Adults will model high standards of behavior. Strategies for disciplining will be restorative to the child, and be developmentaly appropriate. Whenever possible, a problem solving process will be used for resolution of problems.
Conflict is to be expected and respected as an opportunity for growth. Children will know what to do when there is conflict, and know how to communicate their needs to the right person. Conflict Mangers will assist on the playground. Critical incidents should not be ignored, but should be dealt with at the proper level.
Children need to take responsibility for their choices, and learn about the consequences of their actions. This is an important life skill for everyone. Children need to be clear about what is expected of them, be taught appropriate behaviors, and know that they will be treated fairly.
It is hoped that this Behavior Mangemnet Plan will be a guide for children and adults and that it will emphasize preventative practice. Every effort wil be taken to infuse a spirit of caring for children and their well being.
