Surfing the Net

 

Students will learn the basics of the Internet. They will learn what the Internet is, how to get onto the Internet, how things move on the Internet, how to stay safe on the Internet, how to surf the net, what the World Wide Web consists of, what a Web site is, what a home page is.

 

Time Required: One month

 

Materials/Resources Needed:

1. Book on "Internet"

2. Computer Lab connection to the Internet

3. PUC volunteer

 

Procedures:

1. Students in groups of 4 will attend the computer lab sessions weekly

2. An explanation of the Internet will be given

3. Students will have "hands-on" experience showing them how to get into the net, how to move things, how to surf

4. Students will be informed as to how to stay safe on the Net.

5. An explanation of the World Wide Web will be given

6. Students will have "hands-on" experience showing them the World WideWeb including visitations to Web sites including the California Heritage Project, and to the district home page

7. Students will be asked to sign with their parents, a user agreement
