Here's our city!
Hello! Us kids at John Swett Alternative would
like to welcome you and share the wonders of our city, San
Francisco, with you, such as the
Golden
Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, The Ferry
Building, The
Transamerica Pyramid, Chinatown, Japantown, North
Beach, Pier 39, The
Mission, and many more places!
Our city, San Francisco, is a large city of
wonders. It is full of surprises (and people)! We have a good Mayor
named Willie Brown. Our city is one of the most populated cities in
the USA! The population of our city is 750,000, but since 250,000
people come to San Francisco all over from the Bay Area every day, it
makes our population 1,000,000!
San Francisco is a REALLY busy city. There are
a lot of neighborhoods, communities, and types of towns (such as
Chinatown, Japantown, Mission, etc.). Our city is always growing
every day! There are many constructions going on though, such as the
City
Hall being earthquake-proof. Here is a
really shaky
link.
SF's wonders are incredible. A good example is
The Golden Gate Bridge, which is called the "Golden Gate Bridge" because it
is the main "gate" to our city and the color of the bridge, which is
almost golden just like the name. The Ferry Building is another wonder
of our city. It is by the Ferry Building where the ferry boats come
in. It is like a welcome sign from our city, since on the Ferry
Building, it has the name of our city, San Francisco! Our city has
many different communities and cultures, like the Mission for
example.
The Mission is home to the Spanish community.
It is one of the best parts of the city (except for Chinatown). In
history, there use to be a certain plant that grew in that area, but
now it no longer grows there. Here is a picture of the Mission
district after the 1906 earthquake.

Now let's talk about our
school!
Our school, John Swett Alternative, is located
downtown by the City Hall. We are the closest school to it. At our
school, we study hard and learn about important subjects. We all work
together, and we think hard on certain subjects to have them
complete. We have many different classes, from kindergarten up to
fifth grade.
Also at our school, we participate in many
projects. We have the Hills Project on Mondays and Wednesdays where
we all learn a musical instrument; some kids play even more music
with our special music teacher on Fridays. We always have a Halloween
Parade, The May Festival, and more activities.

District.
