Mexican Independence

Then and Now

Students will download images from the California Heritage Digital Media Access Project (Native American and Spanish), create pictures of Mexican Indepence heroes, and scan home photos to create a pictorial report on people in California before statehood and now!

Learning Objectives:

1. The student uses a variety of primary source materials to construct a visual multicultural product.

Lesson Objective:

1. The student will have a beginning exposure through a historical lens to the variety of groups (Native American, Spanish, mestizo, their own ethnic group) which have populated the area now called California.

2. Students will begin to have content to explore the concept of "immigration."

Strategy:

Students will learn to use the Web by completing a group instruction session. Students will use a storyboard to design their own project. Students will plan the project with input from a partner. Students will share the project with the class. The product will be placed in the student's portfolio.
