Pencil Portrait

The pencil portrait assignment is the last pencil assignment for Art 1. It is a comprehensive review of the concepts practiced beforehand in the form of a face. The assignment involves many steps. Students start by studying the human face and the shape and location of its features. They then choose their own photograph (usually a family member or someone they can get a good picture of) and trace a countour drawing based on the subject's features onto tracing paper. Using what they leanred from their study, they then transfer the traceed countour drawing onto a 9" x 12" sheet of newsprint and, when ready, use a lightbox to transfer their newsprint drawing to white paper. Only then do they start shading.

Size: 9" x 12"
