Lowell class meeting schedules are modular. Classes do not necessarily always meet for the same length of time everyday. There are 20 "mods" from 7:35am until 3:30pm (in a regular day schedule.) Classes are coded as "A" classes, "B" classes, and "C" classes. "A" classes meet for 2 mods, 40 minutes, everyday (except for some special schedules). "B" and "C" classes alternate between being 2 mods long (40 minutes) on one day and 3 mods long (65 minutes) on the next day, Monday through Thursday. Fridays are used to maintain a time balance between "B" and "C" code classes since holidays and special schedules and events can create an inbalance of class-time between "B" and "C" code classes. In a regular schedule, "B" and "C" code classes share a 5 mod block. For example, mods 1-2-3-4-5 is one such block with the middle or "swing" mod, mod 3, being part of the "B" code classes on Mondays and Wednesdays and part of "C" code classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays are declared to be a either a special schedule, a "B/Cs as on Monday" schedule (B long, C short), a "B/Cs as on Tuesday" schedule (B short, C long), or a "Neutral Schedule." In a "Neutral Schedule" the "swing mod" is cut in two, in this example "3B and 3C" with "3B" belonging to a "B" code class and "3C" being part of the "C" code class.
