Luther Burbank Middle School, located in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, has a student body that represents a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, as reflected in the wall murals painted by our students and staff. Burbank's goal is to provide a balanced core curriculum that offers each student the opportunity to encounter high standards as well as a rich, learning experience. Burbank's curriculum and it's various programs encourage students to develop their problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities as well as their writing, reading comprehension and communication skills. Burbank continues to show accelerated growth on the CTBS this can be attributed to the after school tutorial mathematics program as well as to skilled classroom teaching and the fine support form CIPD site team form Parkside center. Burbank's Marching Band (the only marching band in the SFUSD) has accumulated an array of first place awards. Burbank's soaring computer-technology program allows students to use CD ROM's, digital cameras, scanners and Internet technology to demonstrate research skills and to generate "published" student work. To showcase the beauty of our diversity and to demonstrate our school's creative approach to learning, Burbank sponsors multicultural assemblies, the West Africa, the Maya, the Egypt and the "Dia de los Muertos" projects. Working with the community, and our "Partner's in Education," the law firm of Landels, Ripley and Diamond, Burbank strives to prepare young people to successfully integrate and participate in society.
