Located in the Portola District of San Francisco, this area is characterized
by a multi-ethnic population. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Academic Middle
School was built in 1986 as a result of a court-ordered Consent
Decree desegregation mandate. A committee [Design Team] consisting of
students, teachers, and administration were consulted on the design of the
interior and exterior.
"The basic philosophy of the school is to cooperate, participate,
work, and learn together in order to accomplish an ideal of an ethnically
diverse, harmonious and productive pluralistic society at a high literacy
level."
