VISION STATEMENT
"Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School
is dedicated
to the principles of peace, brotherhood, and equality.
Our goal is to ensure that all
students achieve their maximum potential in academic, social,
and physical endeavors.
We will accomplish this through the combined efforts of
our
students, families, and staff."

Consent Decree
"The SFUSD has operated under a federal and judicial
consent decree since 1983, in response to a lawsuit brought by the NAACP
to address years of racial discrimination against African American school
children in San Francisco. The decree is a voluntary, carefully negotiated
and judicially supervised compromise. The two primary and related goals
of the consent decree are to desegregate the city's schools and to improve
academic performance.
Under the consent decree, no racial group may constitute
more than 40% or 45% of total student enrollment at any given school. Additionally
the decree requires each school to have students from at least four out
of nine different ethnic groups represented in its student body. Under the
terms of the SFUSD consent decree, every student is guaranteed free, desegregated
public education; no child and no particular group of children may be denied
these benefits."
