Volunteers

Volunteers come from various organizations to work with the students at Sheridan School.

The Volunteer of the Year in 1997-1998 was Ed Cummings, a fireman who worked with many students and created backdrops for cultural performances at Sheridan School. He continues to share his talents with the students this current school year.

The Rolling Readers provides volunteers to read to the students at Sheridan. Police officers also read and talk to the students about appropriate behavior in society.

Many parents give their time to volunteer on the various parent committees and help out with the multicultural assemblies during the year. Parents help in the classrooms reading with students and on field trips.

Program Quality Review (PQR)

During the 1998-1999 school year, Sheridan School was involved in a PQR. The emphasis was on the Language Program Arts Program being implemented for the students. Staff training and a Self Review were conducted. Consultants visited the school and viewed student work. They assisted staff in developing an Improvement Plan for Language Arts which will be carried out over the next 3 years.

Multicultural Student Assemblies

Students perform plays, dances, and songs for the entire school every month. All students are given a chance to participate during the school. The theme for their performances corresponds to the ethnic group being celebrated during the month. Sometimes their performances are taken on the road to share with other students in other communities!
