The second grade program has an interdisciplinary
approach to teaching. Science, Health and Social Studies are
integrated into the Language Arts. Second grade students are
continuing the language arts program established in first
grade using Open Court for phonics, Scholastic for our basic
program and an older series, Houghton-Mifflin, for
additional support. This is supported by the use of other
technology including VCRs, computers, and tape recorders.
The second grade math program is based on Mathland enriched
with the use of other hands-on activities and supported with
computation review. Field trips are an important part of our
program in order for students to have first hand experience
with their environment. Team teaching is an integral part of
the second grade program. All students are involved in many
multi-cultural performing arts programs and activities which
are encouraged throughout the school.
