Third grade students are involved in many enriching programs that we see throughout the curriculum that help meet the needs of the total child. Students participate in the Scholastic Reading program adopted by the District. In addition, the program is enriched with the use of "Open Court," a phonetic skill builder. A large number of students partake in the "America Reads" tutorial program. Projects originated in the classroom, are enhanced in the computer lab, where students use presentation software to extend their use of language skills. The third grade students have had an exciting fall semester with a variety of field trips and programs including a visit from the Zoomobile and a city tour on the Old Navy Bus. The students are also enthused with their science and social studies programs, as they rotate amongst the third grade classrooms. Third grade teachers team teach, providing social studies instruction and science instruction, highlighting the use of the FOSS kits of Magnetism & Electricity and Structures of Life. Third grade students participate in the Junior Achievement program emphasizing the concept of The City, as well.
